ADG, in association with Komatsu Architecture, was selected to provide the strategic planning for the Grand Prairie / Irving Joint Operations and Training Complex to include the Fire Departments’ burn building, training tower, field operations training facility, and the Police Department’s EVOC Course, Firing Range(s), and the West Irving District Operations facility. This complex co-locates various “first responders” under a single hardened structure or in a campus setting, and very importantly, shares the critical infrastructure systems redundancies that are required to maintain the continuity of government operations during and immediately after a significant event.
The build-out will be implemented over time as bonds are sold and funding is appropriated by the City. Phase One includes the enclosed vehicle training / parking facility which provides parking for eight fire apparatus, as well as a burn building, drill tower, and training building for the Grand Prairie / Irving Fire Departments. Phase II will include the development of a 25-lane, 50-yard, indoor shooting range for the Irving Police Department as well as relocating the entire operations of the Police and Fire Departments to this site which is estimated to be 174,229 SF.
