Bartow Public Works Complex Needs Assessment

ADG was contracted by the City of Bartow to review existing municipal facilities, determine current and future departmental space needs, and develop master plan options to provide adequate facilities for current and future needs. The Bartow Electric Utilities was an important component of the work, at the time, their current main facility was in a desirable area for urban renewal and was not adequate to support the personnel and services the utilities provide Bartow’s community.

The city was a wholesale purchaser of power from Florida Power Corporation. The role of Bartow’s Electric Utilities was to maintain and augment the electric service infrastructure. The utility maintained six substations as well as developed and maintained a telecommunications network for the city’s administration. The telecommunication service was a desirable and potentially lucrative revenue source for the city. In addition to laying cable, the electric utility maintained the city’s critical telecom hub.
