The new 58,000-SF, two-story police headquarters houses the Chief and administrative offices suite, professional standards, detectives bureau, narcotics, special victims unit, uniformed services division, K-9 unit, crime scene investigative services, evidence, crime prevention, technical / IT services, training, facility support (lockers and physical agility), records, and public access areas which include a shared lobby and large community room. Included onsite is a 4,800-SF detached vehicle storage building.
Conceptually, the new headquarters forms a public safety neighborhood center with the existing Fire Rescue Station No. 5 through the use of shared public site access and public parking, as well as a landscaped entry plaza and pedestrian link connecting the public lobbies of both buildings. The staff entry and parking are to the north and east of the new headquarters behind security walls and gated entry / exit to separate private from public. The headquarters floor plan is organized from the most public areas (entry plaza and community room) to the most private or secured areas (crime scene investigative services and evidence) separated by a two-story semi-private / secure block. The semi-private / secure block houses all the administrative services, records, detective’s offices, uniformed services offices, and interview rooms.
The construction of the facility utilizes tilt-up concrete panel with textured coating for cost savings and storefront glazing, and blue accents to represent a modern police facility. The shaded, south facing linear corridor utilizes linear floor-to-ceiling glazing to the fullest extent to emphasize transparency within the community, maximize natural light and function as the main department connector.
