The project entails the construction of a new police training facility, a three-story structure with a gross square footage of 54,283 SF. The Port St. Lucie Law Enforcement Training Facility is designed to prepare the City’s emergency response personnel. Located in a campus environment adjacent to the Police Department, the entry contains an open plaza with featuring art and discreetly disguised bollards to protect personnel.
The 27,666 SF first floor boasts a multi-story, naturally lit secure lobby that opens into large lecture hall that can be subdivided to provide for two simultaneous training venues or one large venue. This space is served by a large break room that supports outside catering needs to enhance training opportunities and various other functions.
The remainder of the first floor is in a secondary security access zone and includes spaces for defensive tactics, driving and firearms simulators, and a fully supported 20-lane firearms training range.
The firearms range is set up for qualification or tactical training including accommodations for scenario based training. Features include observation and control room, the ability to bring in patrol vehicles, storage for various department weapons including SWAT, weapons cleaning, ammunition storage and armorer’s areas.
The second and third floors of the facility, totaling 13,382 SF and 13,235 SF respectively, will be dedicated to police department training and administrative functions. The second floor will feature an 800 SF Training Ammunition Combat (TAC) House, equipped with movable tactile walls for advanced tactical scenarios, along with a prep and pat-down room to ensure participant safety. The TAC House is a versatile, non-ballistic training tool designed for urban assault and force-on-force exercises, easily assembled and reconfigured to accommodate various training needs. The remainder of the space on the second floor will be allocated to training staff. The 3rd floor will house police administrative functions.
