Winter Park Public Safety Complex

The City of Winter Park selected ADG for a detailed spatial needs assessment, master planning, cost estimating, facilities design, and construction administration services for the Winter Park Public Safety Facility. Once completed, the facility totaled approximately 78,000-SF servicing both the city’s fire and police operations.

The facility included 22,600-SF for fire-rescue operations. Fire Station No. 2 was located on the 1st level with fire administration above. The design also featured four, double-deep apparatus bays with specialized exhaust systems, bunker gear storage and decontamination areas, a fire training tower, emergency operations center, and the department’s administrative headquarters. Crew quarters included command staff sleeping and office areas, designed for prompt and direct access to apparatus. The facility design also provided access to the main building lobby for 24/7 emergency walk-in care.

This joint-use facility was designed to withstand Category 4 hurricane force winds and pressures. The building’s envelope was constructed out of 7 ¼” thick reinforced concrete “tilt wall” panels throughout. The roof was also designed with an insulating lightweight concrete roof slab to provide structural integrity, which is known to be the highest area of probable damage during exposure to hurricane forces. The insulating properties of the lightweight concrete also afforded the facility reduced heat gain thus lowering the operational costs associated with the cooling bands.
